H-1B Quotas

Posted 8 months ago I am thiking that H-1 B quotas will probably fall due to this recession - has anyone heard anything or have experiences with how this has affected quotas in the past? |

| Posted 8 months ago I am guessing that if we slip into a full-blown recession that H1 quotas will definitely be affected (let alone election results). Aside from the fact that the us unemployment rate will soar, it will be difficult for companies to justify bringing in overseas employees. |

| Posted 8 months ago I always though the H1-B visa situation was a contrived problem in the first place and was done mostly to get technical talent into the US at a somewhat lower rate. |

I wanted to add that if you look at most companies, at least the major players in technology, most have their sites on expansion in India and China (Europe to a lesser extent) so to me that means potentially that the demand for H1-B Visas might not be as large as we all think it is or should be. HP,Cisco,IBM, etc.. all have pretty significant presences in India as things stand today (at least Bangalore right given the property values are skyrocketing). I guess the interesting question is what sort of technology staffing penetration have Indian businesses managed into China ? |

| Posted 8 months ago Paul is right about global expansion but there is still sufficient fascination with America as the "Land of Dreams" for the demand of H1s to exceed the supply. I think India will catch up, but not for another decade at least. |

I say this not to disparage other countries as they rise, because even here in the states, there are a handful of leaders and then bunches of concerns who provide the broader market offerings for a given technology, but instead, wonder, give the current product release candences, how much sense it makes to try and innovate as opposed to revising an existing market element... Of course this is different for software, but then, software has still not mastered the monetization recipe... |

| Posted 8 months ago i agree with paul (and think christophe should probably get off this forum) - those that come to america come to make big bucks from the innovation whether it's in silicon valley or in research and academia..
