Posted 6 months ago Did you all see this movie? I LOVED it! I was wondering what anyone else thought. If you haven't seen it, you MUST! |

| Posted 6 months ago I haven't seen the movie yet...but just read the book. It was really amazing and I felt a lot of commonalities with the mother character...especially regarding her feeling like she doesn't completely belong to India or the US. I have assimilated much more into American culture than she had though. |

| Posted 6 months ago I loved it too! The Interpreter of the Maladies was better though I thought, but Lahiri is an amazing author. |

| Posted 6 months ago You should check out some of Bharati Mukherjee's work as well, a similar vein, maybe writing about a generation or two before you all but interesting just the same... |

| Posted 6 months ago Mira Nair does some really nice work, I actually preferred Mississippi Masala, but that is because at the time I had a huge crush on Ms Choudhury. Ok, well Sarita and Arundhati Roy as well :) That being said, I found the movie interesting for a couple of choices made.
2) Gogol's wife: interesting that she was educated western (assuming you consider the Sarbonne western), and ultimately made a familial/cultural choice to go back to western culture after having done the "right" thing by marrying Gogol. I wonder what if any messaging about western culture is being made ..... |
