it seems to me like there is more competition between us indians at the same company, than amongst other ethnic communities. why is that?

It's all about scarcity of H1-B visas. Ask most Americans, and they equate H1-Bs with Indians -- and so do we. I wonder, though, if that's true. Do Indians truly get the largest share of H1-B's each year, or does it just seem that way to me.

I find that Indians are very competitive in nature and they compare themselves to other Indians. In order to *feel* successful, we (Indians) want to do better than our peer set which is other Indians. I like what is happening in India where there is a strong sense of unity. i suspect this will make its way over here.

Maybe the competition is a good thing? It might be driving us to accomplish things we wouldn't otherwise.

I don't agree. Many of the best managers I have had have been Indians. They know where we are coming from, and how to get things done.

It is what you make of it, isn't it? If you utilize the shared background correctly, you can achieve positive outcomes.

I think that is we work together in the same place then there is a lot of competition. But once we meet other people in different company we share and learn the most from.

Really? I don't think that at all. I think the competition depends on the position, not the ethnic group.

As far as the racial factor, I think that if anything Indians tend to stick together more than they compete.
