What are the virtues of an Indian vs. an American education? With 18 years in the Indian education system, the rote memory style of learning gave me very strong theoretical foundations. Plus, not being able to opt out of subjects meant that I certainly had some level of proficiency in a wide variety of subjects. However, it was only when I attended a liberal arts college in the States that I learned to critically analyze and interpret facts. But I don't believe that approach would have been effective if it were introduced to me earlier in my life.
What's the best combination, and where does one find it?

I frankly think that the Indian emphasis on education is so linked to our fundamental philosophy of being that we do a damn good job of it. Problem is, we have still not figured out how to make good, quality education to the masses.
