7. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Farhan Akhtar’s opus burst onto the scene as a blatant departure from the traditional Bollywood formula of sex, violence and wardrobe changes (although there is certainly some attention to fashion and hair-dos). Dil Chahta Hai attacks serious issues head on, but never ones slips into melodramatic gunk mode, and actually provides plenty of opportunity to sit back and enjoy the smart banter between its three protagonists.
